A very peaceful place
Nice bridge but watch out for Leatherface after dark. Dog will hunt!
This is a wonderful historic park with bicycling and walking trails. The old bridge is closed to vehicle traffic, but open to walking and cycling across to the other side of the park where the old town of Montopolis used to be located, and became part of Austin's colorful history. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. It can be refreshing to step out of the huge city into nature for fresh air, sunshine and some exercise. Great for visitors to Austin and not too many people. The few I encountered were locals taking walks or cycling in apearant routine outings. It's one of my favorite places I randomly found myself exploring last visit and I didn't get enough. Ill be back with friends. EDIT: A gentleman asked about catfish and I can't find his question again to answer. From what I'm told, the river is a good one for largemouth bass, Guadalupe bass, catfish, and sunfish.

Beautiful view of the Colorado River
It's a part of Austins history and very significant to the Montopolis Neighborhood. The rebuilding and modernization of Hwy 183 made this historical bridge available for pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Absolutely the best place in Austin and Travis County to sit and watch the sun go down behind the cityscape of downtown Austin. I just wish they had left the cheesy old chandelier up. Some one in a fit of craziness had scaled the bridges iron structure, decades ago, when it was still a vehicle bridges and hung that chandelier. Its there in the old photos. Now I suspect it's stashed away in some City workers attic as a souvenir. Anyway...still the best place in the City to watch the sun go down.
